Notice Board

National Urdd Eisteddfod 2013.

The National Urdd Eisteddfod will be coming to Pembrokeshire during Whitsun week in 2013.  Every village and town in Pembrokeshire has been set a fundraising target, and Llanychaer has joined Gwaun Valley in their efforts to raise £3000 by 2013. The idea is that a house to house collection may be set up if anyone would like to donate some money to the fund.

Activities will also be held to raise funds over the next few months. In the meantime the committee is looking for some support in terms of members and officials. If you are interested in helping by doing a house to house collection, donating money to the cause or by attending a meeting or holding a position of office please contact Elin via the webmaster for more information.

Minutes of meeting Wednesday 2 March 2011 at Bridgend Inn

Present:  Vicky Pearson, Sue Russill, Val Shaw, Julian Fry, Nigel Owen, Ken Pearson, Dick Russill, Elin Evans, Hedydd James, Delyth James, Ann Williams

Apologies: Krissie Davies, Sue Kendall

The Minutes of the meeting on 12 January were approved and signed as a correct record.

Matters arising: Hedge around the Green: Ken has made good progress laying this and preparing the space for a new fence.  The plan is to remove everything except the fruit trees.  He asked for help to remove all the cuttings from the Green and it was decided that a work party would convene at 10 am on the 5th March.  As well as clearing the Green a litter pick will also happen as some areas are particularly bad especially around the church car park.  Web site: Julian is in the process of transferring the web site from PAVS.  We need to pay the bill for the domain name.

Treasurer's Report: Vicky reported that, after payment of various cheques, we have £1717 in the bank and £58 in cash.

Easter Eggstravaganza:  This will take place on Monday, 25th April starting at 2.00 with an egg trail along the river.  A small amount of craft will be available in the marquee.  At 3.00 the usual ‘egg’ games will start plus ‘shoot the chicken’, ‘Bop the Bunny’ and a raffle.  Vicky volunteered to make a simnel cake for this.  Tea and hot cross buns will be served from 3.00. Julian will design a poster for this.  It was decided not to have competitions this year as the prizes are expensive and last year there were only a couple of entries.  There will be a charge of 50p per child for the egg trail with accompanying adults going free.  We will also sell eggs for the games and Julian will investigate a source for these.

Open Gardens: This event will be held on the 9th and 10th July.  Gardens at Ty Hen, Y Garn, Dyffryn Vernant, the old Post Office and 1 Bridge Street will be available for viewing.  The possibility of flowers in the church will be investigated plus beer tasting at the Brewery.  Krissie is happy to do teas on both days at Ty Hen and we will also try to organise a plant stall there – all contributions welcome!

Harvest Supper: This will be held on 24th September at the Bridgend Inn.

AOB: Mrs. Evans has offered to come and talk to us about her husband’s work as part of an auxiliary unit during the war.  This was a secret unit of brave local men trained to sabotage possible German occupation.  It was decided to hold this in the Bridgend on a Sunday afternoon (8th May has been agreed with the Bridgend and with Mrs Evans) with a charge for tea and a raffle in aid of a charity of Mrs Evans’ choice.

Date of next Meeting: WED 13 April at 7.30 at the Bridgend Inn.   All Welcome.
